Meet our Survivorship Behavioral Health Clinician, Lauren!
What brought you to the field of survivorship?
Historically there has not been enough attention brought to the unique challenges faced by cancer survivors. A lot of the focus is on getting through treatment, however after treatment can be a particularly difficult time. A cancer diagnosis and treatment affect patients both physically and emotionally. Survivors need to be heard and their experiences validated. As a young adult cancer survivor I felt I needed to be part of the solution in better supporting cancer survivors.
What excites you most about the future of survivorship?
I am most excited about the growing awareness of the need to support cancer survivors after treatment ends. I am encouraged by the changing landscape around talking about the mental and emotional impact of cancer and providing support services to help patients thrive in survivorship.
What’s the best part of being part of the Oncovery team?
The best part of being on this team is working alongside people who all share the same vision and goal. The mission of this company aligns with my desire to make survivorship care accessible to as many survivors as possible. Everyone on this team has shared values and works together to provide meaningful and effective services to cancer survivors.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was really young I wanted to be a figure skater (I never got past some local competitions) and then as a teen I wanted to be a stage manager on Broadway. I do have a degree in stage management and have used it at various times in my life. It is safe to say my life changed in a lot of significant ways after being diagnosed with cancer at age 32.
What’s your favorite way to spend a Sunday morning?
A perfect Sunday would be; sleeping in, getting in a quick workout, going for coffee and a great New Jersey bagel, and then relaxing while watching football. Is there anything better than good bagels and football?
