What brought you to the field of survivorship?
What drew me to the field of survivorship is the opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients as they transition from active treatment to life beyond cancer. Survivorship is a unique stage where patients often face ongoing physical symptoms, emotional challenges, and concerns about recurrence while working to regain a sense of normalcy in their lives. Supporting survivors through their recovery, celebrating their milestones, and helping them navigate the long-term effects of treatment makes survivorship a meaningful and fulfilling area of practice for me.
What excites you most about the future of survivorship?
What excites me most about the future of oncology survivorship is the growing recognition that cancer care extends far beyond completing treatment. As more people are living longer after a cancer diagnosis, there is an increasing focus on helping survivors achieve the best possible quality of life through personalized, comprehensive follow-up care. As a Nurse Practitioner, I am excited about the opportunity to play a central role in addressing the long-term and late effects of cancer treatment, promoting healthy lifestyle changes, managing chronic health conditions, and supporting patients' emotional well-being.
What’s the best part of being part of the Oncovery team?
The best part of being a part of the Oncovery team is how well everyone works together. Each and every employee has shown compassion for survivorship care through their willingness to go above and beyond for our patients. The team continues to grow and is constantly changing its processes and procedures to best serve our patients. I am truly blessed to be working alongside this crew!
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid, I vividly remember wanting a career where I could help people and make a positive difference in their lives. In high school, I started volunteering at a local nursing home and was amazed at how much nurses did for their patients day in and day out. I knew in that moment that after graduating high school I would go to nursing school to fulfill these dreams.
What’s your favorite way to spend a Sunday morning?
My favorite way to spend a Sunday morning is having a slow, relaxed start with my husband and our two children. We always make coffee and enjoy a big breakfast together. After that, we love taking a nice long walk as a family, which gives us a chance to enjoy the fresh air, catch up, and simply spend quality time together.
