Meet the Team: Katie Durbin, LCSW

Meet our Survivorship Therapist, Katie!

  • What brought you to the field of survivorship?

I spent the first half of my career in both inpatient and outpatient oncology, working with people in active treatment. Then I started working in private practice, focusing on illness and oncology. The majority of clients who came to me were survivors struggling with so many aspects of their life post-cancer. This continued for the next half of my career. I repeatedly saw how challenging the post-cancer life was for people.

  • What excites you most about the future of survivorship?

I'm excited that we're finally understanding what a complex issue survivorship is and, most importantly, that we are working to solve it in innovative ways. I believe that with programs like OncoveryCare we are going to reduce long standing suffering for so many people.

  • What’s the best part of being part of the Oncovery team?

That I'm not doing this work alone anymore! I'm grateful I get to work with so many passionate and smart people who all care about helping people live better lives.

  • When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

As a kid, I wanted to be a professional tennis player like Chris Everett and play in Wimbledon. Once I hit college, there were too many oter distractions and I stopped playing :)

  • What’s your favorite way to spend a Sunday morning?

I love a slow Sunday morning. Sitting in the backyard with my dog and a coffee. Then maybe a walk while listening to an audio book. And finally a late breakfast with my 2 teens who have just woken up!
