Meet the Team: Brooke Hamilton, LCSW

What brought you to the field of survivorship?

As a clinical social worker, I am keenly aware of the challenges in care for clients and the impact these challenges may have upon their health and well-being. However, as a co-survivor to my partner navigating his cancer treatment, I am more acutely aware of gaps in cancer care, and the importance of bridging these from diagnosis onward, to ensure seamless navigation survivorship for long-term health, comfort, and personal peace. Being able to merge my clinical expertise with a passion to serve cancer survivors, and with an incredible team of experts, is truly a dream come true.

What excites you most about the future of survivorship?

What excites me the most about the future of cancer survivorship is the growing support and investment into the space. Through emerging partnerships, research, and expanded funding, the development of tailored and effective survivorship models, such as OncoveryCare, is possible. The potential to reach millions of individuals and families to improve their day-to-day lives is very exciting.

What’s the best part of being part of the Oncovery team?

The best part of being of being on the Oncovery Care team is not only the level of skill, competence and education that each member brings, but also the humility, passion, and personal investment towards bringing the best possible care to survivors.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was a child I desperately wanted to be an egyptologist, that is, until I found my first DSM at a yard sale in middle school. Since then I have known I would be a therapist. Selecting the path of social work has allowed my clinical work to lean into a holistic, person-centered approach.

What’s your favorite way to spend a Sunday morning?

Sunday mornings are for coffee and the park. After sufficient caffeination, my youngest son and I spend time together playing and getting some fresh air at our local park.
