What brought you to the field of survivorship?
Prior to joining OncoveryCare I worked in social services and mental health for various hospitals including Seattle Children’s Hospital, University of Washington Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center. I am currently in graduate school studying Marriage and Family Therapy. I have always been interested in the intersection of physical and mental health care and believe that survivorship is an area that is often overlooked. I was inspired by my patients throughout my time working in healthcare, as well as by learning from my partner about his journey as a cancer survivor.
What excites you most about the future of survivorship?
I am excited to provide better support and more personalized care to survivors. There are so many challenges that arise post-treatment that often go unaddressed. I am excited that we are now addressing these challenges and supporting patients with multiple facets of their lives. I am also excited that we can reach more survivors than ever before through virtual models and look forward to seeing the new, innovative ways in which we can connect with one another even more.
What’s the best part of being part of the Oncovery team?
I am so happy to be a part of the Oncovery team, where everyone is so passionate and excited about their work. I feel like I can make a positive difference with my work here and enjoy seeing how each team member contributes to the bigger picture. I am new here but so far have felt very supported by my teammates and can feel the genuine care that goes into the work we do.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a Paleontologist as a kid. I was a dinosaur kid and was obsessed with Jurassic Park.
What’s your favorite way to spend a Sunday morning?
I am a night owl, so I love to sleep in late on a Sunday morning. I also need to start the day with a cup of coffee and a snuggle with my cat while I wake up. Ideally after getting caffeinated, I like to get outside for a walk in the park, a hike or a stroll through a farmer’s market with my partner or a friend.
