Meet the Team: Kelley Crusius, FNP, PMHNP

What brought you to the field of survivorship?

Working in medical oncology, survivorship was always part of my practice. I discovered a true passion for helping those in survivorship after working to create my own survivorship program at a small rural cancer center in Oregon and seeing the unmet needs of patients who have completed active treatment.  Working in survivorship allows me to bridge the gap between physical and mental health care for survivors.

What excites you most about the future of survivorship?

There is so much potential to improve the quality of life of those in survivorship, as there has long been a gap in care for cancer patients. It is very exciting to be a part of a team that is working to expand access to care to those that would otherwise not be able to benefit from survivorship care while also innovating the way we care for and better the lives of survivors.

What’s the best part of being part of the Oncovery team?

The best thing about being a part of the Oncovery team is getting to work with people who have a true passion for patient care and for making patient’s lives better. They are a dynamic, kind and energetic group of people with an amazing vision for survivorship care. Knowing that so many of the team are survivors themselves creates a unique dynamic; these are people who truly know what survivors need in their journey. I feel very lucky to be chosen to be part of the team and help them in their mission to transform survivorship care.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I had big aspirations as a kid, when I wanted to be a doctor/astronaut/lawyer (yes, all three at once). I’m very happy that I found my way to a fulfilling career as an NP here on Earth.

What’s your favorite way to spend a Sunday morning?

I am lucky to have a lovely family which includes four kids, my husband and two dogs. We like to spend our Sunday mornings at home, hanging out together. When pacific northwest weather allows, we will venture out in the afternoons to the farmers market, the lake to paddleboard or to the beach. When the weather is less than favorable, you can find us all curled up watching movies, reading or playing board games.
